Our Story
01
Adventure
We go where real stories live. Sometimes that means a hike, a boat ride or choosing the harder path because it leads somewhere unforgettable.
02
Storytelling
We believe that every photographer has a story to tell. Our role is to guide you toward the intention, emotion and meaning behind each image you create.
03
Exploration
New places, new people, new ideas. Curiosity drives everything we do. It’s how we uncover the moments others miss.
Mission | What We Do & Why It Matters
We believe photographers grow most when they’re supported, challenged and immersed in landscapes that stir something real. Our experiences help creators reconnect with their craft through adventure, exploration and play in cinematic environments. We focus on creating the conditions for inspiration to return, confidence to build and personal storytelling to emerge naturally. Every guest should leave feeling inspired by a trip they’ll remember for a lifetime.
Vision | What Success Looks Like
To empower photographers to explore, learn and create by immersing them in landscapes that spark curiosity, confidence and possibility. Our vision is to deliver premium adventure experiences that bring together travel, teaching and a genuine connection - helping guests grow, find inspiration and leave with a lifelong drive to keep exploring.
Our Core Values
04
Awe
Some scenes make you want to stop in your tracks. We design our experiences around those rare moments of cinematic light and rugged beauty.
05
Education
We teach in real environments, with hands-on guidance and real-time learning. No lectures - just knowledge that sticks.
Rugged Light Photo Tours began as a fourth-year university project—one of those assignments where you’re told to create a tourism experience and hope it turns into something meaningful. For me, it did. What started as an idea for Kamloops quickly grew into something bigger: a vision for photography experiences across British Columbia and, eventually, wherever the road and the light lead.
The more I built it in class—business model canvases, proposals—the more I realized this wasn’t just an academic exercise. It was a pathway back to the kind of photography that made me fall in love with creating in the first place. I spent five years teaching dance while I studied (in another life-time I was a competitive dancer, training 20+ hours a week), and I learned something important: teaching is a gift when you actually have something you want to share.
Photography became that for me too.
When I look at who I created Rugged Light Photo Tours for, I usually see a version of myself. Sometimes it’s the 2020 version—wandering with a camera because the world had shut down, exploring back roads and unfamiliar places just to feel something creative again. Other times, it’s more recent—the me who spent so much time shooting for clients that I forgot what it felt like to create something purely for myself. Rugged Light became the bridge between those two worlds. A way to fill my own cup while helping others fill theirs.
Our tours exist to get people outside, moving, exploring—stepping into landscapes that stir something real. We chase cinematic light, we wander to places that aren’t easy to find, and we learn as we go. No pressure. No judgment. Just adventure, education and play in its purest form.
At the heart of it all is this belief: photographers grow most when they’re supported, challenged and inspired by the world around them.
Rugged Light Photo Tours is my way of creating those moments—so you can reconnect with your craft, find your story and feel that spark again.
06
Play
Creativity comes alive when judgement disappears. We encourage experimentation, risk-taking and rediscovering the joy in creating.
